Our 9 year old son has been attending Affinity for over 3 years and we could not be happier with the results! Typically I’m a shy person when doing anything new, the academy here is amazing, friendly and very welcoming. Training here is something I look forward too in my free time, all the coaches are fantastic and make sure to answer questions or help when not quite sure on how something is done! Jiu jitsu is a Great way to get into shape, learn and apply everything also has worked on my self confidence levels.

Have been going to classes nearly every evening for the past 3 months, really good environment, the kind of training I was looking for, really satisfied with class structure and setting, can't think of any suggestions to make it better, I regret not signing up sooner.
Our 9 y.o. daughter Claire has attended the Affinity Academy Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Kickboxing programs for just over 1.5 yrs., and counting. At about the 1 yr. mark she started competing in BJJ tournaments and had second place finishes in all three regional competitions she signed up for - unexpected for a gentle, non-competitive kid! The structured curriculum, the highly engaged instructors who maintain discipline and keep classes fun, the very clean and safe mat space, and the awesome training partners (and their parents) can all be credited for Claire's growing love of fight sports. Also, she recently started a pilot wrestling program at this academy and gives it two thumbs up!
The short version: We were looking for a martial arts school that delivers results, and we're more than happy to say we found it!

I signed up in hopes that my daughter would find an activity that she enjoyed and was able to burn off some energy. Not only did she become more confident within herself she was able to work off all her built up energy. The instructors are amazing and worked so well with all the kids no matter their personalities. Highly recommend.
Really great gym with fantastic coaching and atmosphere. Class sizes are good especially daytime classes on Saturdays which are typically small and allow for lots of 1 on 1 questions and coaching. Jack is a fantastic jiu jitsu instructor with his procedural step based approach to teaching, which I believe is vital for jiu jitsu. I can’t recommend this gym enough.

I’ve dabbled in a few martial arts and believe Affinity have found the right balance of practical application to fighting, fun and competitiveness - without any pressure to compete. Trained here for 2 years, program teaches BJJ concepts, effective techniques and is logically sequenced.
I have been shopping around for a new place to train and very impressed with Affinity Academy since joining. Location is easy accessible, facility is spotless, balance of scheduled classes offer incredible variety to all skill levels, and the staff is very friendly and professional. I trained two no-gi classes here last week while visiting Calgary. Coaches Avery and Jack were great. I especially enjoyed Jack who was super humble and asked that I not call him Coach or Professor. He had a very unique style of teaching where he was very thorough, and cerebral, but also humble, and funny at the same time. I'll definitely try to revisit if I come back to Calgary and I even encouraged my family that lives in the area to join this gym.
I started training at this location a couple of months ago. Immediately I felt at home. Not only is the Professor and coaches great but the camaraderie of the other guys and gals is very welcoming. The coaches really know there stuff! If you are looking for a place to train jiu jitsu I would highly recommend you check out Affinity!
Absolutely the best martial arts school I have ever attended. The coaches are personable and willing to go the extra mile. They are fantastic with both kids and adults. My entire family will be enrolling in their conveniently timed classes, which are perfectly located for us in the NW area. They truly go above and beyond in terms of cost fairness. I went to Affinity while I was visiting Calgary. The instructors were wonderful, and the other students were welcoming, and great to train with. As a woman, it can be very intimidating going to a martial arts gym, but I would absolutely recommend Affinity to any woman that would like to give BJJ, or kickboxing, a try. I can't say enough good things about them.
I first had the pleasure of meeting and training with Andell years ago in Ontario at my home club. I am visiting Calgary for a short time for school. My coach suggested I visit Affinity while here. Andell has gone the extra mile to allow me to continue my training at both his locations. Absolutely wonderful training atmosphere. Everyone is friendly and welcoming. We were visiting from out of town and my friend and I wanted to do Jiu-Jitsu in Clagary. We reached out to 4 gyms and Affinity was the only one who welcomed us with open arms. They were respectful in our rolls and friendly, which was great! Great bjj guys, very talented and we would love to come back.
It’s a great place. Great atmosphere, coaches care a lot about your performance and want you to always improve. I feel blessed to discover this hobby in this place!!

I've been training at Affinity Academy for just over 1 year. Every class is without a doubt one of the most rewarding experiences I am fortunate enough to participate in, every chance I get. The safe, positive environment reflects the values and passion of the family ownership, staff, and the members. A passionate, respectful culture of support and constant improvement is ingrained in the Academy. Everything is AWESOME! I have seen a big confidence boost in both of my girls since they have started classes here and I would recommend this gym for anyone thinking of trying something new for their kids or themselves. I currently have 2 kids in the jujitsu program at Affinity and couldn't ask for a better introduction for them both to martial arts. The coaches are excellent at engaging with young children and the other members have been very welcoming. Has very quickly become the favourite activity for both my kids and I believe the technical skills and the character lessons taught to them there will benefit them greatly as they grow. I would highly recommend this gym and these coaches to anyone looking for a BJJ program for their sons or daughters.
What can I say about Affinity, that hasn't already been said?!
It's amazing! I love it. The instructors are awesome, very knowledgable, approachable and just all round good people. A friend convinced me to come try, although to be honest I have always wanted to learn bjj so it really didn't take much convincing at all, and as soon as I stepped on the mats and tried my first class, I was hooked.
The people at Affinity treat you like family, the sr. belts are always more than willing to slow down and show you proper form and technique.
I could go on for ever, but will just say this,I definitely have zero regrets about joining and I plan to train for years to come!

I started BJJ at the Affinity Academy in February. It was a challenge for me to get started because I was afraid and quite anxious. It was something completely new to me and I thought maybe I wouldn't be strong or "tough" enough to join. From my very first class until now, everyone has been so welcoming and very supportive with one another. The Academy is a very positive and family friendly environment. Our Sensei's Andell and Clifton are professional and very knowledgeable of this art. Classes are well structured and quite challenging, which keeps me coming back for more. BJJ is beginning to change my life in many ways. I take pride in being a part of this team. I will be forever grateful and will continue to be humble learning this gentle art.
Excellent programs for both adults and kids with great instructors. A family and community oriented academy with a safe and fun learning environment. A wonderful martial arts academy for all ages, highly recommended.
My daughter started about 3 months ago and I think she's doing really well. That's because of the amazing instruction and, most importantly for her age, other children who are very welcoming and friendly.
I love this place. Super clean facility, friendly and knowledgeable people who are more than willing to help you feel safe and comfortable learning the art.
